Augustine Obeng, is a York University student pursuing a degree in Honors Criminology, Concurrent Bachelors of Education, as well as a minor in Theatre. Throughout his 23 years of existence, Augustine has encountered many difficult life experiences, related to crime, violence, discrimination and inequality. After experiencing the death of a close friend due to gun violence, he began to think of strategies and methods to help alleviate crime in his neighborhood of Jane and Finch and decided to dedicate his life to being a positive example for the youth in his community.
Since that time Augustine has been an ambassador for the Youth Association for Academics, Athletics and Character Education, (Y.A.A.A.C.E) organizations. These opportunities have allowed him to develop his leadership and organizational skills. Being an individual passionate about change and excellence, Augustine eventually hopes to become a principal in the Toronto District School Board, and subsequently a professor at York University to inspire youth that dreams are possible. Augustine credits himself as a person who does not wait for change, but makes change happen, and inspires others to do the same.
