Artform: Visual Arts, Dance

Dancer, visual artist, printmaker and choreographer Tamu Beatrice is invested in creating art that tells a story. She focuses her artistic creations on representing Black and African diasporic cultures, from historical to contemporary times. As an artist, Tamu tries to evoke a reaction from her viewers as her art does not shy away from controversial or traumatic subject matters. In the community arts scene Tamu teaches dance through her company Mwendo. She is one of the founding members of the Onyx Society, and has exhibited her visual art with Nia Centre for the Arts at Beaver Hall Gallery in 2011 and 2012, and as part of the T-Dot Pioneers 3.0 mixed media exhibit at SOHO Lobby Gallery in April 2013.
