Lunch 'n' Learn

Lunch 'N' Learn Series

Creative Connect (CC) is a professional development project for early career artists seeking capacity building and career opportunities in the creative business sector. The project utilizes a customized approach to the development of mentorship opportunities, apprenticeships, job shadowing, income generation and internships in creative fields. Participants combine a diverse range of professional development opportunities with professional workplace experiences and mentorships from workplace professionals in the creative fields.

Our Lunch N’ Learn series, a CC program, is an informal talk-back session between an established artist and 10-15 early-mid career artists, over lunch. Topics range from building one’s creative skill set, politics of creating one’s art, intersections of identity in art, creative career paths and more.

Lunches are covered by Nia Centre. As a small token of our appreciation, established professionals receive a modest honorarium.

As we are an afro-diasporic youth organization and spots are limited, priority will be given to those who classify within our target population (afro-diasporic youth aged 15-29).

Criteria

  • Be an established artist successfully living off craft

  • Be available between 10AM - 4PM on a Saturday

  • Host discussion on topics ranging from building one’s creative skill set, politics of creating one’s art, intersections of identity in art, creative career paths and more

Goals

  • Present early-mid career artists with successful professional role models

  • Provide a space for meaningful exchange of ideas, advice, tips and tricks

  • Offer the opportunity for participants to network and collaborate among each-other and the guest speaker

  • Create a safe space of community with young artists where they can come together, eat, learn, share ideas, feel supported and encouraged in their human development (and not worry about the bill)

  • For participants to walk away more informed in the craft, to have real life examples of success (role models that look like them and are relatable) to that inspires and empowers them to become and create what they wish
