Outside the Lines
Outside the Lines provides youth with the opportunity to experience afro-diasporic art and culture outside of their neighborhood.
Arts and heritage are key to community health and well-being, distinctive identity, and collective pride. Communities need to cultivate the artistic thirst of their young people so that they can articulate their community’s evolving identity and hopes, and be a reminder of the area’s heritage and past traditions in the future. In order to do this, youth need to be exposed to museums, galleries, theatres and other artistic forums that have immense potential to inspire youth through the diverse stories and pictures of our Canadian Afro-diasporic histories. The Outside the Lines project aims to get youth outside of their community to see the opportunities and culture that exist beyond their scope and incorporate and reintroduce expose the art form back into their community.
