Nia Centre School Programs

Nia Centre for the Arts offers a variety of interactive and innovative programs for students.

Our programs offer culturally responsive and relevant, curriculum-based content delivered from an Afro-diasporic perspective. The following priorities are at the forefront of our program offerings:

  • Development of critical analysis skills;

  • Support for personal skills development;

  • Encouragement of academic engagement through “non-traditional” means; and

  • Promotion of an appreciation for the arts and its role as an agent of social change.

Nia Centre staff and artist facilitators are trained to execute customized workshops that are inclusive and operate from an anti-oppression and social justice framework.

Workshops are available for grades 4-12, utilizing the following art forms:

  • Digital Arts

  • Spoken Word

  • Creative Writing

  • Dance and Movement

  • Media Arts

  • Music and Rhyme

  • Visual Arts

  • Theatre and Performance Art

  • Drumming

Nia Centre’s artist facilitators represent the top emerging and professional youth artists in the Toronto area. Ranging in experience from students to full-time artists, each facilitator will share a wealth of knowledge within his or her specific art form, in addition to providing educational and career advice to aid in fostering a new generation of emerging artists.

All programs provide direct links to the Ontario Curriculum, particularly in the subject areas of Arts, Media Arts, English, Social Science, History, and Math.
